Know why puffer coats are a popular winter choice
Puffer coats have been in existence since the 30’s, created by Eddie Bauer back in the day. Puffer coats were created as a solution and alternative to regular wool coats. With freezing temperatures, water retention by wool coats and the fact that you might suffer from hypothermia by wearing waterlogged wool jackets resulted in the development process of trendy yet utility puffer coats. These winter apparels get their signature name from the puffed up coating and layer of insulation that is placed on the fabric and stitching. The insulation layer can be anything from synthetic fibers to a type of down insulation which provides the much-needed warmth and comfort during cold, harsh winters. Compared to woolen jackets and sweaters, puffer coats are extremely light and easy to manage without compromising on comfort and quality of material, not to mention the necessary protection from external elements. However, the levels will vary depending on the type of insulation used with down insulation and synthetic fibers being the most common ones for most puffer coats. Down insulation is made up of plumage from geese or ducks. Plumage is the material that is found beneath the feathers of these birds, used as the primary insulation material for jackets and puffer coats.
